Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the Internet.

The Wordsmith VA is my venture into the world of freelance writing, editing and virtual assistance services. My goal is to help you improve your business’ communications. I plan to share grammar, writing and communications advice for all types of businesses. Hopefully you will find this information both entertaining and useful!

Before we embark on this journey together, I thought I would share a little bit about me and how I started this business. I’ve always been a writer. I fell in love with the written word in elementary school. Then in junior high school, I moved into the journalism field by working on my school’s newspaper and yearbook staffs. Ultimately I served as co-editor of the yearbook during my senior year of high school.

Since I loved journalism so much, I naturally thought I should major in journalism at college. But during college, I realized that the newsroom wasn’t the right place for me. So I shifted my focus slightly to magazine feature writing. When it came time to complete my journalism internship, I ended up in a public relations internship at a local hospital system…and I unexpectedly enjoyed that type of writing! That internship turned into a full-time job where I used my writing skills to promote the hospital system’s programs, services and events to the local community.

Eventually, my skills evolved into coordinating communications campaigns, organizing and publicizing large-scale events and managing team projects and editorial boards. What I love best about my training is that I can use my writing, editing, planning and other communications skills in any industry.
